Start with both ends of the belt the same length.

Choose one side (it doesn't matter which) and cross it in front of the other.

Fold that end up behind BOTH layers of the belt and pull it tight.

Then fold it across your stomach

Fold the other end up IN FRONT of the first end, then down BEHIND it.

Pull both ends firmly TO THE SIDES. The belt ends should hand down diagonally.
Belt color signifies rank, or proficiency. The small colored bands across the end of the belt indicate the levels within each color. Students have to pass practical and theory tests to progress to the next rank. A serious student can reach black belt in two or three years.
